SPRINGFIELD, Mo - A multi-million-dollar development project, called the Ridge is in the works for south Springfield. Springfield's Economic Development Director, Sarah Kerner, says the project is "ambitious".
"One of the things that is interesting about it is that it just offers such a variety of types of developments within one geographic area," Kerner said.
The Ridge will be located on Campbell Ave. next to the Library Center on about 100 acres of land. Kerner says there will be hotels, shopping, medical space and residential area.
However, she says this project will take some time to complete.
"Right now I think the property is going through rezoning," Kerner said. "There will be several other steps to the process before shovels go into the dirt."
In the meantime, many in the community are looking forward to this development.
"I would love that," Bron Battaglia, a local resident, said. "I'm a shopper, the more shopping options the better, so I am excited about it."
Those with the Library Center are looking forward to possibly getting some new neighbors.
"Any new development is good, so it adds to our community," Regina Greer Cooper, Executive Director of the Library Center, said. "Gives us more of a tax base, which that is how the library is funded ... We're looking forward to it and we welcome them as new neighbors."
Construction on a new Zaxby's near the Library Center has also started.
