SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- The Springfield Chapter of the NAACP continues to prepare for its fundraiser on Tuesday, August 27, 2019. The chapter, along with the Springfield Cardinals will be hosting Jackie Robinson Day at Hammons Field.
The goal of the event is to bring inclusion and diversity into Springfield, through fun and history. To better help with the agenda, the NAACP and The Springfield Cardinals will be honoring Jackie Robinson's 1947 historical integration of Major League Baseball. Springfield NAACP chapter president, Toni Robinson said this is an inexpensive family fun event that's sure to bring fun and history to the plate.
"This is not an event just for the black community;" explained Robinson. "This is an event for all people to come to celebrate the integration that Jackie Robinson led us to that we can still celebrate today."
