A new $100 million development is planned to be built in Rogersville. The project will include many different types of housing and commercial space along W. Center St. near Highway 60.

"It's all things that we need to go forward, we've got a huge demand," Larry Sutton, Rogersville City Administrator, said. "We are lacking in available homes. We have developers wanting to build. Morelock is wanting to come in and do that so we are very happy."

Wayne Morelock, President of Morelock Builders and Associates, says they will construct 72 one and two bedroom upscale apartments, more than 100 units for those 55 and older, housing for wounded veterans and 35 single family homes. They plan to call it Logan Estates.

"I'm excited to see the growth in Rogersville,": Morelock said.

The front of the development will be dedicated to commercial development.

"It will lend itself to exercise or any sort of commercial activities like clothing stores," Morelock said.

"Grocery stores/ convenient stores are an ideal candidate," Sutton said. "(There will be a) strip center through there that will cater to offices, insurance offices and professional offices. It's all ideal because they are going to have highway visibility and local traffic as well."

Construction has already begun on the project. The groundbreaking is scheduled for Feb. 15.

Morelock says the apartments should be completed within the next year.
