SPRINGFIELD, Mo - A large piece of land off of Weller Ave. near Independence St. is being developed. Developers plan to create more than 120 apartments, office space, a fitness center, pool and nature trail.
"The style of apartment would be geared towards young professionals," Sam M. Coryell, President of TLC Properties, said. "(Those) who want to live near a lot of activity and want to live near shopping."
Coryell says the project is called, Cambium. He believes the location separates this complex from others.
"I always look for high traffic areas where people could get on their bike and go to Walmart," Coryell said.
Coryell says he also plans to build a walking trail around a pond on the land. Crews are working to preserve wildlife in that area.
"That's the exciting thing and really makes it unique," Coryell said. "It's one reason why I was really drawn to it. We are going to build a walking trail and be able to take advantage of that nature center kind of place in this busy part of town."
The road this new development sits off is busy. However, Senior City Planner with the City of Springfield, Michael Sparlin, says the road can handle it.
"They are not increasing the intensity beyond what was currently allowed in the zone," Sparlin said.
Sparlin says multi-family complexes are popping up all through town.
"A lot of growth, a lot of multi-family and a lot of senior housing type developments as well," Sparlin said. "Multi-family seems to be where the market is headed."
Cambium is expected to be completed near Spring 2019.
