Branson, MO. -- Shepherd's Mill Restaurant is now open at the Shepherd of the Hills Adventure Park in Branson.
The brand new restaurant features home-style cooking for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
"The food is just down-home cooking. So, it's just good country cooking that people would expect in the Ozarks. You've got your chicken-fried steak, your meatloaf, that kind of stuff," Co-Owner Jeff Johnson said.
The Shepherd of the Hills property has not had a restaurant for about 17 years. However, when the current owners purchased the property, they decided to bring quality cooking back to the homestead.
"The previous restaurant that was here for a long, long time was called Aunt Mollie's Cupboard. That burned to the ground in 2002 in a fire. So, it has been without a restaurant on the property ever since. When we first bought the property a couple of years ago, the very first thing we said we needed to do was have a restaurant again on the property for folks," Johnson said.
Johnson says the restaurant contributes to the Shepherd of the Hills' overall mission to keep Ozarks history alive.
"Atmosphere-wise it is very much keeping with the book. There are a lot of parallels that tie-in to the story of the Shepherd of the Hills, not only the book itself, but also in the history of the property with Harold Bell Wright, the author of The Shepherd of the Hills," Johnson said. "The history is obviously very important to us for a number of reasons, so we are trying to do something that honors what we are and what the history of the property is."
The Shepherd's Mill Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, the restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch.
The Shepherd of the Hills Adventure Park also features a variety of activities from Inspiration Tower to Lil' Pete's Playland to the famous Shepherd of the Hills outdoor play. For more information on the park, visit theshepherdofthehills.com.
