On Your Side: Medicare enrollment caution
Medicare enrollment is just around the corner. On Your Side can help you navigate the solicitations.
Enrollment starts October 15. A viewer sent us a letter they got in the mail. At first glace, it might appear to be from Medicare. It's not. It's from an insurance agency.
As for those phone calls you're getting from people claiming to be with Medicare, use caution.
"We are just trying to get the public to understand that no one will be calling and asking them info. We are trying to get out there, go ahead and hang up. Don't feel like you have to answer their questions. They may tell you they're from the government, but unless you have a case you called first about ... no one will call you," said Stacey Childs with CLAIM, The Missouri State Health Insurance Assistance Program.
Crooks know about those new Medicare cards. A common scam they'll call and ask you for your old Medicare card number. Which is your Social Security number. Don't take the bait.
