Many Springfield Cardinals fans will be looking for cheaper parking near Hammons Field for Thursday's home opener.

Earlier in the week, it was announced the cost of parking in the lots south of Hammons Field would jump to $20 for home games. The operator of those parking lots, Plaza Realty, responded to KY3 News Wednesday stating the price hike was inaccurate. In a statement, the operator said Hammons Field parking will increase to $14 a game.

The parking lot operator also stated they offered the Springfield Cardinals an opportunity to licence 400 of the parking spaces in the lot, so they could set their own rate for parking.

The Springfield Cardinals said they declined that offer, stating the operator asked for $420,000 for the 400 spaces. In a statement, the Springfield Cardinals said, "we declined this offer and informed the Landlord and its legal counsel that their proposed pricing and terms were outrageous, lacking in good faith and constituted a breach of our lease agreement."

While some people are relieved it's not $20 for parking and are willing to pay $14 for a convenient walk to the game, not every fan has that luxury. Other parking options are listed below.

Jordan Valley Ice Park

Jordan Valley Ice Park will charge $5 per vehicle for Springfield Cardinals home games. Jenny Fillmer Edwards with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board said they will prioritize Ice Park and American Legion customers. Cardinals fans can have any remaining parking spaces. "Due to the anticipated volume and trying to make sure that our customers also have access to parking, we'll be moving to $5 per vehicle on game nights at Jordan Valley Ice Park," said Edwards.

Ozarks Technical Community College

There is free parking at OTC.

Ebbets Field has about 60 parking spaces behind their establishment on Walnut Street. Managers said as long as the person is a customer either before or after the games they can use the lot for free.

It is free to park along Walnut Street, just south of Hammons Field. There are also several free parking garages near Park Central Square.
