Petition asks for Gypsy Blanchard's early release from prison

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- More than 96,000 have signed an online petition to release Gypsy Blanchard from a Missouri prison.

Blanchard is serving a ten-year sentence after pleading guilty in the stabbing death of her mother Dee Dee Blanchard at their Springfield home in 2015. Her case earned national headlines. It also led to several television series and a documentary on HBO.

Gypsy's father Rod has openly defended his daughter. He believes if she's released early, he would like to see Gypsy moved to a mental health facility to get hep.

People magazine recently reported Gypsy is now engaged to a man she met after he wrote to her in prison. The two plan to marry once released from prison. She is eligible for parole when she is 32.
