Plane crashes in Eureka Springs, Ark., pilot injured

The Carroll County Sheriff's Department is investigating a plane crash in Eureka Springs.

The crash happened Thursday around 11 a.m. The plane crashed off of 1 County Road 207.

The pilot, Marlyn Atkinson of Excelsior Springs, Mo., suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash. Atkinson was the only person aboard the flight.

The plane crashed shortly after take-off from the private airstrip, owned by Silver Wings Aviation. The plane came to rest approximately 75 yards east of the airstrip. The plane was intact following impact. Initial reports indicated smoke coming from the plane, however there was no fire.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Traffic Safety Board (NTSB) will determine the cause of the crash.
