Police identify man killed in deadly shooting at Springfield home

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Police say a homeowner called 911 early Wednesday morning saying he had shot a man who broke into his home. Police found Christopher A. Seitz, 36, of Springfield, Mo. dead inside the home. Police did not identify the shooter.

Officers responded to the 911 call in the 3200 block of West Madison at 1:30 a.m. Police say the homeowner grabbed a gun when he heard noise. The homeowner tells KY3 News he did not know the man he shot. The homeowner says he is still in shock.

A neighbor across the street says it all happened at her landlord's house. She was thankful to hear he and his wife were not injured, but she's heartbroken for them just the same.

"I feel so bad for him right now, because I can't imagine what the man is going through, and his wife," said Rhonda Dodd. "To have somebody break in and have to shoot somebody, it has to be devastating. It has to be."

Detectives continue to investigate and are asking anyone who has information about this incident to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810.
