Tip leads to discovery of unloaded handgun on Glendale High School; student in custody

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Springfield Schools say a student is in custody of law enforcement after school leaders found a handgun at Glendale High School.

The administration received a tip a student was in possession of a gun at the school Thursday morning. School leaders located the student. They then found a handgun and airsoft rifle inside the student's car. Both were unloaded.

The student is currently in the custody of law enforcement officials.

In a statement to KY3, the school says, "it is continuing the investigation and will follow all appropriate disciplinary procedures in responding to this violation. We have zero tolerance for weapons on campus and commend the individual who came forward with information that prompted our investigation. By doing so they are helping to keep Glendale safe for everyone who attends there."
