SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Police identified a woman shot dead outside a home in northeast Springfield Tuesday night.

Investigators say Raquel R. Montgomery, 29, of Springfield died of the gunshot wound.

The shooting happened shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday in a neighborhood in the 1400 block of East Blaine. Officers found Montgomery in the yard of the home. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died. Police say Montgomery does not live at the home.

Police have been interviewing witnesses, but do not yet have any suspects. They do not believe the shooting was random. Still, neighbors like Beverly Thatcher are keeping their doors locked. She heard the gunshot sound.

"I heard about two or three, but I didn't know what direction they were coming from except off to the East, and I knew it was somewhere close to the stop sign," said Thatcher. "But I didn't see anything, any cars go by at that time or anything."

Detectives continue to investigate and are asking anyone who has information about this incident to contact the Springfield Police Department at (417) 864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at (417) 869-8477.
