Republic wastewater pump station fails; thousands of gallons of sewage spills

REPUBLIC, Mo. -- The city of Republic issued an emergency water conservation order after the city's pump station experienced successive mechanical failures.

All four pumps failed. Crews are working to cleanup thousands of gallons of sewage in Shuyler Crerek. The Shuyler Creek Wastewater Pump Station will be inoperable for 48-72 hours. The wastewater facility serves 70 percent of the city's residents.

Emergency pumping operations have been initiated, however a reduction in wastewater as generated from residences and businesses can help reduce the potential for a bypass to area creeks and streams. All residents and businesses are asked to practice emergency water conservation measures to assist in mitigating the impact of this event.

To facilitate emergency pumping operations, the segment of Farm Road 186 between Farm Road 99 and Farm Road 101 will be closed to through traffic.
