SPRINGFIELD, Mo. The substation on West Grand in Springfield is shut off after a fire in a transformer box Friday morning. That left up to 10,000 customers without electricity.

Crews were called to the substation at 529 W. Grand St. around 1:50 a.m. after smoke could be seen rising from the substation. Investigators are trying to figure out what triggered the explosion.

Police were seen at several intersections directing traffic, due to outages to traffic lights. City Utilities spokesman Joel Alexander said all of the outages were restored by 6:30 a.m. Customers who lost power are now being serviced by other substations.
