SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3/KSPR) - The Sara Lee Bakery Outlet in North Springfield suddenly closed leaving customers with lots of questions.

KY3 News was there as customers pulled in the parking lot to find the "store closed" sign on the businesses front door, in addition to empty shelves. One long-time customer said she feels for the workers who always helped her get what she needed. "They would put something back for us, which you'd don't see a lot of that anymore," said Mary Marshall of the customer service. "I really feel sorry for their employees that they've lost their jobs and I know that's going to be a hardship for everybody."

Marshall says she has been coming to the Sara Lee Bakery Outlet for up to ten years. She said these are the types of stores that help feed families on a tight budget. "A lot of people don't have a big income," she said. "They gotta go and find places that are cheap and help feed their families."

Many of the stores customers are now left searching for good deals. Some are headed nearly six miles away to the Sunbeam Discount Bakery Store located at 3720 West Chestnut Expressway in Springfield. Store owners there said they've seen a bump in business over the weekend since the outlet closed.

KY3 News reached out to the Sara Lee Bakery Outlet to ask why they closed and if they will reopen in a new location, they declined to comment.
