Maries County, Mo. mother faces murder charges in death of disabled daughter in house fire

NEAR VICHY, Mo.- The mother of a disabled teenaged girl killed in a house fire near Vichy is jailed on murder charges.

Tracy M. Ellis age 43 of St. James.

Tracy M. Ellis, 43, of St. James, faces a second-degree murder and endangering the welfare of a child charges. She will appear in court Thursday.

Ashlyn Rayanne Ellis, 14, died in the house fire Sunday. The teen's older brother called 911. He told dispatch a fire had trapped his disabled sister inside a burning mobile home. The mother was not at the home at the time of the fire.

Sheriff Chris Heitman says the mother left the child alone while her brother was out fishing. He says the mother neglected the child, resulting in her death.

Court documents states that when first responders arrived on the scene, they found that a wooden gate was installed on the teens bed with a metal spring loaded hasp. Which was only accessible from the outside, keeping her from escaping.

An autopsy found that Ashlyn had breathed in soot from the fire, and that her diaper had excessive amounts of urine and feces in it.
