Christmas Tree lighting ceremony kicks off holiday season in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- It's officially the holidays in Springfield. The annual Mayor's Christmas Tree lighting ceremony on Park Central Square kicked off the season.

Over two-thousand people were in attendance to Saturday nights event, and Santa Clause and Mrs.Clause even made a guest appearance.

However, along with the beautiful lights, it was the atmosphere of family and friends that truly brought in the Holiday spirit.

"I love Christmas, I hang out with family every year and we just have a good time at Christmas," explained Springfield resident Cody.

For some families it was about making more memories.

"We came last year it was a lot colder, but it was awesome to come together and see the Christmas tree light," explained Hedgpeth Family.

Activities included, sleigh rides, live music, a meet and greet with Santa and Mrs. Clause, and even a chance to meet a few Disney Princesses.
