Springfield Public Schools host free vaccine clinics

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3/KSPR) - Parents are getting kids ready for the new school year, one thing on the checklist is shots. Starting Tuesday, July 31, Springfield Public Schools will host free vaccine clinics.

Jean Grabeel, the Director of Health Services for Springfield Public Schools, said the vaccines are important for student's health, to prevent both illnesses and even death. Grabeel also explained how many people don't know a world without them. "Because we've had the majority of our children vaccinated, we've not seen, in our lifetime, what the results are for not getting mass immunizations done," she said.

Locations for the SPS free vaccine clinics are listed below. The clinic starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m. each day. This is for Springfield Public School students only, school officials ask parents to call 417-523-1632 to make an appointment ahead of time.

Tuesday, July 31 - Hillcrest High School
Wednesday, August 1 - Glendale High School
Thursday, August 2 - Central High School
Friday, August 3 - Kickapoo High School
Monday, August 6 - Parkview High School

For students not in the Springfield Public School System, Jordan Valley can help get students up to date on vaccines.
