A woman from Springfield, took her fight against Alzheimer's disease onto a national stage. Daisy Duarte made an appearance on Thursday morning on the fourth hour of NBC's "Today."

Duarte appeared on the show in New York City alongside a neurologist researching new treatments for the disease.

KY3 first introduced you to Duarte and her mom, who suffers from the disease, in a special report about Alzheimer's disease a couple of years ago. Duarte was also recently featured in the PBS documentary "Every Minute Counts," which detailed the latest developments in the fight against the devastating illness.

Not only is she her mother's sole caregiver, but Duarte also recently found out she carries the Alzheimer's gene.

Alzheimer's affects more than five million people in the United States.
