Driver seriously injured in head-on crash involving Crane School District bus
Authorities in Stone County are investigating a head-on crash involving a school bus outside of Crane.
The crash happened after school around 4 p.m. on Swinging Bridge Road. Superintendent Dr. Chris Johnson tells KY3 News emergency crews airlifted the driver of the truck. That driver happens to be a Crane High School student.
None of the eight students on the bus were transported to the hospital by medical staff. However, some parents are choosing to take their children to the hospital as a precaution. The bus driver is also okay.
Corporal Seth Isringhausen with the Missouri State Highway Patrol says the investigation is on-going, but initial information from the scene indicates that the young driver was traveling too fast, lost control, and drove into the path of the bus. Isringhausen says it appears that the driver of the bus was not at fault.
"The bus driver did a really good job. He saw the danger coming and he moved over as far as he could. He had eight students on the bus and he was doing his best to try to protect those kids," Corporal Isringhausen said.
Dr. Johnson says she’s grateful it wasn’t worse for the students on the bus. She says they were all in their seats.
Isringhausen says the driver of the truck's injuries appear to be non-life threatening.
