STONE COUNTY, Mo. (KY3/KSPR) - Stone County authorities received an assist from a boater living along Table Rock Lake after a morning pursuit Tuesday. And the boater may have just saved the suspect's life.

Kimberling City, Mo. officers came across a driver in a stolen vehicle around 3 a.m. When officers pulled behind the car, the driver took off. The driver led officers on a chase down State Highway DD. The chase ended a short time later in the yard of a home on Table Rock Lake. That's when the suspect got out of the vehicle, jumped in the lake, and swam out of sight.

Law enforcement turned to area boater David Byrne. Byrne boated out about 40 yards where the suspect struggled to stay above the cold water. Byrne locked arms with the man and helped him to shore.

The suspect is in the Stone County Jail.

The Stone County Sheriff's Office and the Stone County Fire Protection District assisted in the pursuit.
