Teenage girl hit and killed by a train south of St. Louis

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo- A 15-year-old girl is dead after a freight train hit her south of St. Louis.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's office says it happened on a bridge over a creek between Desoto and Hematite Sunday afternoon.

The sheriff's office says the girl and four other minors were swimming in the creek before they decided to climb onto the bridge. Three of them jumped into the water, the other two ran when they heard the train. One of the minors who ran, got out of the way in time, but the train hit and killed the 15-year-old.

The victim's name hasn't been released.

Union Pacific Railway is assisting the sheriff's office with the investigation.
