Teenager dies in house fire in Maries County, Mo.

NEAR VICHY, Mo. -- The Maries County, Mo. Sheriff's Office is investigating a fire that killed a teenager over the weekend.

Firefighters from the Vichy Fire Department responded to the house fire on Maries County Road 438. Officers found a 13-year-old girl inside had died.

Maries County Sheriff, Chris Heitman says a 16-year old boy called dispatch for help after his 13-year old sister was trapped inside their burning mobile home. She was physically disabled and couldn't walk or talk. Even though first responders arrived within minutes, they couldn't get into the home to save the young girl.

Sheriff Heitman say's this kind of call is hard on everyone even first responders.

"You know it really affects the community, first responders, and everyone involved," said Sheriff Heitman. "It's just such a tragic event, to lose someone so young, in something so sad."

Investigators have not released a cause of the fire. The Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office is assisting in the investigation.
