Man accused in deadly Springfield shooting turned himself into police

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Police say they have a suspect in custody in the shooting death of a teenager in north Springfield Monday evening.

Officers identified Dearies Hempstead, 19, of Springfield as the victim of the shooting at 641 West Brower. Hempstead shortly after the shooting died at a Springfield hospital.

Detectives say Timber R. Porter, 18, of Springfield, turned himself into police Tuesday afternoon. The detectives have not unveiled a possible motive in the case. An attorney for Porter claims self-defense.

Police did not identify any other suspects.
