Voters to decide tax levy increase for Walnut Grove School District

WALNUT GROVE, Mo. ( KY3) - Greene County voters are being asked to raise their property tax levy by $1.07 in August.

The Walnut Grove School district tax levy is the only thing on the Greene County special elections ballot. The district said the owner of a home valued at a $100,000 would pay an extra $203.30 a year.

It would let the district build new classrooms, add a FEMA storm shelter, and a more secure entrance. The money would also build a new circle drive in front of the school, replacing the current drop off and pick up area.

A neighbor who lives just across the street said the current drop off and pick up area are her main concern.

"You have this whole line of people that are busy wanting to get in there." said neighbor Linda O'Connor. "I've had people drive through my yard so they don't have to pass the bus."

The superintendent of the Walnut Grove School District said he plans to start handing out fliers and posting signs about what the school would do with the money Monday.
