The Greene County sheriff's department says it has received several reports of someone claiming to be its employee calling people and threatening to send an officer to a home for refusal to pay for a ticket or warrant. Sometimes the caller has someone's personal information to try to sound legitimate.
The department does not have a department called the "Civil Processing Unit" and does not accept payments by telephone.
The sheriff warns people to not give personal or financial information to a caller. You can call the sheriff's office at (417) 868-4042 if you are concerned about an unresolved issue with a warrant or ticket.
