ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright has added a fifth child.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that he and his wife, Jenny, learned Thursday that their adoption of 2-month-old Caleb had been approved. He says his "eyes welled up all over again" when he heard the news.

The family submitted an adoption application almost a year ago with Kansas-based private adoption agency. He says he felt adoption was something they were "supposed to do" and "wanted to do." They met with the birthmother in February in Topeka as her due date neared. That night, she went into labor.

The couple and their four daughters have been caring for Caleb since birth. Wainwright says, "There will never be a lack of love for this little dude."
