Organizers expect 3,000 runners at Bass Pro Shops Conservation Marathon in Springfield Sunday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (News Release) -- Thousands are expected to “run for conservation” in the premier annual fitness event in the Ozarks: the twelfth-annual Bass Pro Shops Expo and Marathon Weekend.

The weekend culminates with full and half marathon races on Sunday, November 4 and features the News-Leader 5K; all races begin and end at the flagship Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World in Springfield, Missouri.

Weekend activities kick off with a free health and wellness expo on Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3 at the John A. and Genny Morris Conservation Center. The expo is open to the public and features more than 50 vendors.

Marathon Weekend will attract participants from 40 states with more than 1,000 community volunteers on-hand to help bring the event to life. This year marks the 12th anniversary of the Bass Pro Fitness Series, celebrating health and wellness, outdoor adventure and wildlife conservation in the beauty of the Ozarks.

The Bass Pro Shops Fitness Series is designed to offer activities for people of all ages, backgrounds, fitness levels and areas of interest. Ozark Greenways, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, The Dogwood Canyon Foundation, Girls on the Run and Champion Athletes of the Ozarks will share proceeds from the events.

Event Details
All Marathon Weekend races take place on Sunday, November 4. Participants will compete in the following events:
Bass Pro Shops Conservation Marathon – 7 a.m.
Cohick Half Marathon – 7 a.m.
Conservation Marathon Relay – 7 a.m.
News-Leader 5K – 7:15 a.m.
Packet pick-up and late registration will take place at the John A. and Genny Morris Conservation Center during the following times:
Friday, November 2, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday, November 3, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Onsite parking will be offered in and around Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World including in front of the main entrance off Campbell and to the south in the Cherokee parking lot. Additional parking is available in the far west parking lot by the Bank of America. Sunshine Street will be blocked from 5 a.m. – 4 p.m. so spectators can see the racing action at the starting line and finish line, which will be located near Bass Pro Shops and the John A. and Genny Morris Conservation Center.
