Bill would lower childcare costs for families, increase pay for workers

Congress voted to avert a government shutdown by passing a short-term funding package that dropped assistance for Ukraine in the fight against Russia.

The stopgap measure will fund the government for 45 days as lawmakers on both sides work on a permanent deal.
