Proposed expansion could transform Ozark sports complex with hotel and turf fields

OZARK, Mo. (KY3) — The Ozark Mountain Sports Complex, just off of U.S. 65, could be getting a major expansion. The expansion would include a hotel, indoor training center, and turf fields.

Mary Barb lives just a short walk from the Ozark Mountain Sports Complex and has called this neighborhood home for nearly 15 years. But living so close, it often feels like she sits in the stands at every game. Her backyard fence separates her from the action at the Ozark Mountain Sports Complex.

Aldermen are considering a financing agreement to fund a major expansion around the stadium, including a hotel, offices, two full-sized synthetic turf baseball fields, and an indoor training center—all aimed at transforming the complex into a regional sports hub.

“I don’t like that at all, to tell you the truth. I mean, there are other places people can stay, like in Springfield. They don’t have to be right here on sight,” said Barb.

“The ordinance in front of you tonight is for a funding agreement,” said a spokesperson for the potential project.

The city is also considering using economic development incentives, including possible tax incentives and land exchanges, to help make the vision a reality.

“To be involved with you guys for this very crucial step in partnering and collaborating with us and this development to become a reality,” said Matt Goforth, a developer.

The city is still in early talks, and nothing has been approved yet, but the conversation is heating up as the proposal moves through the board of aldermen.

“I’ve been on the end of this for several different things, not only here in Ozark but in Springfield too, and if the city sets their mind on that’s what they want that money, that revenue coming in, there’s nothing us guys can do about it,” said Barb
