On Your Side: Company donates new roof to Springfield family
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - A few weeks ago, On Your Side told you about a Springfield family who needed a new roof after those strong spring storms.
On Your Side: “I feel defeated.” Springfield homeowner denied by insurance to replace the roof.
Time was of the essence because they believed the leaks were making their son sick. For months, they fought with their insurance company, Nationwide, but were denied a roof replacement.
Roofers saw Katy McCharen’s story and did something about it.
“It was leaking in a few different spots,” said Robin Davidson with SRA Roofing and Gutters. “There were shingles missing everywhere. It was a bad deal.”
Davidson didn’t just watch the On Your Side story; his crew got to work.
“We decided to come through and help them out for Christmas. We are going to replace the roof for them free of charge and try to help out,” he said.
Labor plus materials equals a $13,000 gift that will help a child breathe a little better.
“I have kids at home. We all have kids at the office. To see somebody who has a child having some bad side effects and sickness, it really touched us. It was one of those deals we wanted to step in and help out,” said Davidson.
“When I pulled up, all I could see was the beauty in the roof now,” said Katy McCharen. “It looks clean. It looks nice. The weatherhead doesn’t look like it’s leaning or going to fall over.”
McCharen can’t believe it.
“We are going to have a fantastic Christmas now because it was the one thing we wished for. Our roof to be done.”
