Dog miraculously survives 50-foot fall into cave
HARRISON COUNTY, Ind. (WAVE/Gray News) - A coonhound is back home safe after falling 50 feet into a cave in Indiana.
Multiple agencies assisted in rescuing Remi Friday night. The dog had taken a tumble into a pit on private property in Harrison County Friday night.
Remi’s owner immediately contacted Indiana Conservation Officers (ICO) for assistance. The ICO Cave Rescue team, along with experienced local caver Chris Schotter, was also called in to assist with the specialized rescue.
Schotter and an ICO rescuer descended into the dark, 50-foot cave to secure Remi, who was uninjured despite the massive drop into the cave.
A mechanical haul system was set up at the surface of the cave, and crews successfully pulled Remi back to the surface.
Officials praised the quick coordination and excellent teamwork of everyone involved in bringing Remi home safely.
