Free financial advice for all ages at the Stone County Health Department Wednesday
REEDS SPRING, Mo. (KY3) - There is an event Wednesday in Reeds Spring where you can learn how to handle your finances.
The Stone County Health Department’s Financial Wellness Fair was born out of a need in the community. When an apartment fire displaced 30 residents, they realized they had no renter’s insurance.
This free event aims to make sure everyone in the community is ready to handle all kinds of finances, both in crises and in everyday life.
There will be 20 tables set up with experts from around Stone County talking to you about insurance, avoiding scams, savings, investing, estate planning, taxes, and more.
“I think we have a great community here in Stone County,” said Felicia Beasley with the Stone County Health Department. “We all seem to come together for needs, and it’s just really heartwarming to see all of our business owners and insurance agents and everybody in the community saying, ‘Hey, I like this idea. This is something we need to do.’”
It’s a mix of help designed to appeal to people of all ages because the more you know and the sooner you know it, the healthier you’ll be.
“Budgeting and financial smarts start at a very young age,” Beasley said, “so you need to know these things. With your first job just starting out, if you learn to budget and start that savings account, you’re gonna be so much financially healthier when you’re older.”
The event also includes some giveaways and free food.
“A whole part of a healthy community is not just health-wise,” said Beasley, “it’s financially. If you’re not financially healthy, that promotes stress and makes you very unhealthy sometimes. We just think it’s part of the whole community package. Public health means taking care of the community not just health-wise but as a whole.”
The Financial Wellness Fair is at the Stone County Health Department at 701 Old Wilderness Rd. in Reeds Springs from 1 to 6 p.m. on September 23.
