WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (WESH) - A multi-vehicle crash involving a school bus in Winter Haven, Florida, Monday morning left two people dead.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said a white Chevy Malibu clipped the back of the school bus, causing it to swerve into another lane.

The bus struck an oncoming Jeep head-on.

WARNING: Some viewers may find this video disturbing.

“You see how quickly death occurs in a vehicle crash, a horrible, horrible, horrible vehicle crash. At that instant, two people lost their life, but there was a lot of emotional pain and injury that occurred in that crash. When this crash happened, it happened in the blink of an eye,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said. “So, it was absolutely impossible for that driver to get any kind of control over that bus because it immediately crashed into this Jeep.”

A person in the Jeep was killed. The identity of that person has not been released.

Student identified

A 10th grade student on the bus was also killed. Polk County Public Schools identified her as Adinaluz Guadalupe Prieto Oyola, a student at Winter Haven High School.

“An amazing young lady in every account. Teachers loved her, friends loved her,” Polk County Public Schools Superintendent Frederick Heid said.

Heid said Monday was to be Prieto Oyola’s first day of cheerleading practice.

“As you can imagine, it’s been a very difficult 24 hours,” Heid said.
