Middle school principal arrested for suspected child sex crimes

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW/Gray News) - A principal at Jardine Middle School was arrested for suspected child sex crimes on Thursday.

According to the Topeka Police Department, officers arrested Todd W. Haag, 56, at Jardine Middle School.

Haag was booked into the Shawnee Co.Department of Corrections on charges of the following:

• Aggravated Criminal Sodomy
• Sexual Exploitation of a Child
• Indecent Solicitation of a Child, and Electronic Solicitation

School officials said Haag has since been placed on administrative leave.

“We know this information is concerning; please be assured that the district is working closely with law enforcement and we will have district staff on site in support of students and staff. Additionally, we thank law enforcement for their support for the Jardine Campus as they investigate this matter,” a statement from Topeka Public Schools said in part.

According to Haag’s bio on Jardine’s website, he has worked in education for 30 years, serving Topeka Public Schools at Williams, Jardine, and Scott Dual Language.

No additional information was immediately provided by authorities.
