Miracle Child: Meet Children’s Miracle Network Hospital child Kamryn Stofer
MANSFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Kamryn Stofer is embracing life as an almost 18-year-old with a passion for friends, horseback riding, and reading.
When she was an infant, her parents didn’t know exactly what her life would be like. At just four months old, a time when most children are busy reaching and pulling, Kamryn wasn’t.
“She would drop her left shoulder and reach that way. She wouldn’t use her left arm,” shared Kamryn’s parents, Billy and Shelley Stofer.
Kamryn’s unique challenges were the result of a stroke she experienced in utero, leading to mild Cerebral Palsy and left-side weakness.
The diagnosis was a shock for the new parents, but they wasted no time taking action. Recognizing the importance of early intervention, they started on a journey of therapy, a journey that required them to seek specialized pediatric treatment away from their home in Mansfield.
“For pediatric treatment—you’re not doing that here in Mansfield. You’re not doing that in Mountain Grove. You’re going to Springfield—3, 4, 5 times a week,” Shelley says.
The financial strain of these frequent trips was alleviated when Children’s Miracle Network stepped in to offer support.
“They took that burden off us, worrying about how we are just going to pay the bills to get her the treatment that she needs—allowing us to just focus on the treatment,” Shelley says.
Despite facing ongoing challenges, such as the upcoming transition to college, Kamryn has triumphed over much of what impacted her early in life. She has been accepted to three universities, showcasing her resilience and determination.
