ST. ROBERT, Mo. (KY3) - A woman from St. Robert has been charged after one child died and another child was hospitalized while in her care. Both were foster children.

According to court records, Alyssa Jackson is charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child resulting in death, abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child causing serious injury, and abuse or neglect of a child resulting in serious emotional or physical injury.

On August 13, Pulaski County deputies responded to a home in St. Robert for a two-year-old girl not breathing. She was taken to two hospitals, the second one being in Springfield. The girl died on the night of August 14.

A second child, a three-year-old boy, was placed with a different foster family who took him to a children’s hospital in St. Louis for his injuries.

Authorities had Jackson give them a tour of her house while they interviewed her. Deputies took note of the extremely poor and graphic conditions of the house.

Doctors who cared for both children later told authorities they both had severe injuries consistent with non-accidental trauma.

Jackson told authorities she had the children in her care, custody, and control, that no one else was ever alone with them, and she never let them out of her sight. According to court documents, Jackson also told investigators she has three children of her own and told the investigators they have autism.

According to investigators, when authorities confronted Jackson about the injuries, she requested an attorney, so they had to end the interview.
