SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Memorial Day is more than a week away, but the call for volunteers is already underway.

The Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield is asking for help placing flags this coming Wednesday, just ahead of the Memorial Day Program on the 26th.

If you’d like to volunteer, the cemetery asks you to arrive around 10 a.m. Also, it is currently fresh flower season at the cemetery, but from next Thursday to the Tuesday after Memorial Day, artificial flowers can be used.

”See all the volunteers that come out. There are kids of all ages, just the smiles and the joy of them putting the flags out. It means a lot to not only myself, but to our staff, to our Missouri Veterans Commission, and to our area, to Christian County, Greene County, everyone,” says Tony Cupples, the director of the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.

The ceremony on May 26th starts at 1:30 p.m. There’s also a ceremony planned at Fort Leonard at 1 p.m. that day.
