CMN Miracle Child: Meet Blake Deepe
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Baseball has been very good to Blake Deepe, a young travel baseball player whose love for the game helped him through a life-threatening battle with leukemia.
Blake has played travel baseball almost since he started playing the sport. His father, Roger, says it has been Blake’s favorite activity.
“I love pitching, it’s my most favorite thing to do on the field. And if you’re in the batter’s box, I will strike you out,” Blake said.

Cancer diagnosis changes everything
During last year’s season, Blake suddenly could barely finish games due to back pain. His condition worsened rapidly.
“He was already fatigued and crying before games would even start, and slumped over between pitches, like trying to catch his breath, and he couldn’t pitch more than two innings,” said his mother, Tiffany. “And so we knew something was wrong.”
After seeing the family physician and undergoing tests, the family received devastating news. Roger recalls the moment they learned the diagnosis.
“She was calling my wife at 7:15 in the morning. They don’t call you from their personal phone with good news,” Roger said.
CoxHealth arranged an air ambulance to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City. The family rushed back to the emergency room, where physicians delivered the suspected diagnosis.
“And it was right before we left that the ER physicians said it was looking like leukemia,” Tiffany said.
“And then I’m shocked,” Blake said.
“I don’t think anyone of us thought it was going to take the road that it did,” Roger added.
Fighting back with faith and determination
Blake underwent chemotherapy treatment with remarkable resilience. His mother drew on her faith during the darkest moments.
“He was nearly on death’s door and for some reason I just looked at him and said you’ve got to keep throwing strikes and I think God had placed that on me to say that because he’s a pitcher,” Tiffany said.
Throughout their ordeal, Children’s Miracle Network provided crucial support to help Blake return to baseball.
“Knowing that we had a partnership that would help us move forward, whatever it was going to be,” Roger said.
“So it helped alleviate some of the stress of our Children’s Mercy bills and then especially for 2025 was more on a happier note of health and the assistance was physical therapy and trying to get back to being stronger and getting back to baseball,” Tiffany said.
Major league dreams
Blake maintains his goal of playing professional baseball. His father believes he could make history.
“He will be one of the only major league baseball players who has ever overcome childhood leukemia,” Roger said.
“He is my hero,” Tiffany said.
