All-inclusive playground opens at Fellows Lake Miller Park
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - There’s a new addition to Miller Park at Fellows Lake. A ribbon cutting was held Friday morning for an all-inclusive playground.
It’s called “The Hatch - A Playground for All”, an ADA-compliant playground for kids of all physical abilities. There are accessible pathways, a rubberized surface, high-backed swings, along with all the classic features for kids to enjoy.
Those involved with making it happen say it’s more than just a place to play; it’s a way for kids to meet people with disabilities while having fun together.
”That’s how they become kinder and become advocates for children who may be different. And so skills that they will acquire here on this play space will hopefully carry with them throughout their lifetime because we really need a more kinder society,” said Victoria Babb, the community resource director for Cunningham Recreation.
The inclusive playground was proposed by the Kiwanis Club of Springfield South and has been part of the master plan to develop recreational opportunities at the 820-acre site.
The playground was funded by the Kiwanis Club of Springfield South. The organization coordinated the fundraising campaign for the $500,000 project along with Play-4-All, a division of Cunningham Recreation.
