St. Jude Dream Home: Meet Hudson
MARSHFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - This weekend, a local boy is using his birthday to give back.
“Hudson is truly a miracle,” shared Adisyn Gray, Hudson’s mom.
Hudson went to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in December of 2021 after they discovered a grapefruit-sized tumor on his brain.
Gray shared they were trying to figure out what was going on with Hudson after he had lost weight after having ear tubes put in in the summer of 2021. Then months later, his daycare had two different days when they couldn’t wake him from his naps. Gray said she pushed for Hudson to have a CT scan.
“Listen to your gut, because your gut knows exactly what it’s doing,” shared Gray. “That’s why God gave you the mom gut. If I hadn’t had listened to mine, I wouldn’t be telling you about my son because I would have lost my son,” Gray added.
Hudson was treated for nine months at St. Jude in Memphis. He went through four rounds of chemotherapy before having his brain tumor removed.
“St. Jude has been a huge blessing, everything you see on TV about St. Jude is true, plus so much more,” said Gray.
Gray said they are grateful for the support they received from St. Jude.
“We truly do not see a bill. We do not have to worry about a place to stay while we were in treatment,” recalled Gray.
Hudson went through two more rounds of a different kind of chemo, and then they made the decision to come home.
“It wasn’t working, so we opted to come home,” said Gray.
Hudson returned home in July of 2022. The Marshfield community threw him a parade where he got to ride in the front of a fire truck. Ever since then, Hudson has loved firefighters!
Gray said Hudson now returns to St. Jude every six months to monitor his health, but this Fall, they are looking forward to another milestone. Hudson will start kindergarten!
“At diagnosis, Hudson was given a 20-percent chance of survival,” said Gray. “Now there’s this that’s getting ready to go to Kindergarten and running and jumping and playing with firefighters and doing things that little boys should do,” said Gray.
This weekend, Hudson’s family is giving back to their community and working to support other families who are facing long stays in the hospital.
“Anything I can do to help anyone else, I’m going to do it,” said Gray.
They held their third annual Heroes for Hudson 5K Fun Run in celebration of his birthday. They collected care items like shampoo and conditioner and phone chargers for other families facing long stays in the hospital.
