Smith's Restaurant will soon be opening a location in Springfield

A popular Ozarks family restaurant will soon be adding a location in Springfield.

Smith's Restaurant is a go-to destination in Collins, Clinton, and Bolivar.

The new location will be just off of Campbell and Woodland, near Incredible Pizza.

There is a vacant Kum and Go is being renovated for that new Smith's location.

Mark Smith, the owner of the Bolivar location, will soon also own a new store in Springfield.

"We have been looking for a while and everything is so expensive and too big. We wanted to try to scale down and try to get something that we can manage better." said Smith.

Smith's has tried its hand in Springfield before, opening a location almost a decade ago.

It was owned by a family member that did not own any of the other locations, and ultimately closed.

But now Mark is wanting to try to bring Smith's into Springfield again.

"I want to take mom and dad's tenderloin and take it into several places actually. Springfield is close, there is nothing like it in Springfield so we thought we'd try." said Smith.

But with it's smaller scale, the new location will be a bit different.

"We are going to focus on order online, pay online, and pickup. And we will have 50 to 60 seats in the building. But we do encourage people to come in and eat and sit down. And we are going to do a home cooked style meal in a fast to-go setting." said Smith.

They will also only serve lunch and dinner.

Customers say they are excited for the new location and that Smith's pies and cobblers will be so close to them.

Smith says customers of the new restaurant will order at the counter and see a smaller menu.

"We are going to do our tenderloins and our fried chicken, hot beefs probably. But we are also going to tackle the build your own mac and cheese." said Smith. "We are going to have our best there, so come give it a try, I think you will like it."

The renovation is ongoing and Smith hopes to be able to open the new location early next year.
